KDGE fall homecoming concert - BRRRRRR!!!!

Doug and i took 2 of our kids to the Fall Homecoming Concert sponsored by KDGE in Dallas, Tx yesterday.. it was a concert that seemed to be geared toward teens and early 20's (because Dallas rock radio SUCKS on a colossal level since the unwelcome demise of KEGL a couple of years ago), and also had interest for some of us "old folks" too.. bands like 30 Seconds to Mars, Yellowcard, Cold, Avenged Sevenfold, Seether, and Audioslave along with others were there for the all-day concert.. although i am not a teen, nor am i in my 20's..or 30's, i was expecting to enjoy some of the bands scheduled to appear - i do like Seether and Audioslave, and Doug gets into Cold, and we discovered we both like Avenged Sevenfold with their old-school guitars and harmonies..

we got to Starplex (ok, corporate BS now calls it Smirnoff) just a bit after 12pm if my frozen brain remembers correctly.. dressed for a mild fall day, and were surprised with a day of sub-Dallas temps (i'm a true blue texan, and anything below 70 degrees is nippy.. but i'm talking 50's here - so OMGGGGGGGGGG it was fuh-ree-heeeeeee-zing).. the wind bit at our exposed parts, nipping at our nosies, and light rain peppered us throughout the day.. Doug and i only had on bluejean jackets over our "waffer-thin" shirts, and his daughter, bless her heart, was decked out in a super cool (which turned out to be a super cold brrrrrrrr) mini skirt and punk top.. my son was the smartest dresser with his leather jacket, and we all about smacked when he announced that his hand were hot while we were all turning blue from the cold..

the music was pretty decent.. i really enjoyed 30 Seconds To Mars.. totally loved their enthusiasm and humor.. they got the crowd on their feet.. helping us to collectively warm ourselves with the bouncy-hopping and yelly-singing they had us doing.. they had a great sound that really got their audience perked up despite the bitter cold.. (yes, i know those of you from the north will laugh at me saying upper 50's is bitter cold.. but DAMN IT, it is to us who live in hell)..

one band i was looking forward to hearing because Doug likes them so much is Cold (very approriate for yesterday's freeze-fest).. he has been listening to them since we saw them with Evanescence (remember them?) at Nextstage (another corporate buy-out, now called Nokia Live) days a couple of years ago... they do have some awesome music for sure, but the lead singer berated and ridiculed the audience because we obviously weren't clapping and screaming his praises loud enough.. after one of their songs that he dedicated to God, he said to us, "come on, warm up, people.. Jesus Christ!" in such a rude tone that i though back at him "F.U.".. and later he said he wished out loud that it would rain.. probably hoping his not-adoring-enough fans would pay penance for their lack of gratitude for him lowering himself to play for us..

whatever..

like i said earlier, we discovered Avenged Sevenfold, and totally loved their sound.. we will definitely be getting some of their stuff to listen to soon.. they totally rocked..

we left after their set because we couldn't stand the frigiditifulness of the weather a second longer.. so we missed Seether and Audioslave, dang it.. but i am sure we will catch them next time around..

next up, hopefully - Staind with P.O.D. in november.. hopefully, our fearless, frozen foursome will be rocking out with them then.. at least that concert will be inside..

;)
